Effects of COVID-19 against employment

Employment was always a problem in modern India with the upliftment of both technology and mankind. Globalisation has resulted in certain trends in labour markets in both the developed and developing countries which have heightened the interest in the implications on the employment of international trade and investment flows. Since India open marketed its business policies, it led to a system involving both socialism and capitalism. More of privatisation has begun keeping in mind of the gross progress of India which indeed led to an increase in temporary employment. As per a survey in February 2019, there are 31.2 million people actively looking for jobs in India.
The vast effects of Covid-19 grasped the Indian economy as well. Due to certain bold measures against the deadly virus, businesses entities went down taking the economy with it. The job seekers went hopeless and the one who had gone jobless. The bold decision of calling an early lockdown kept the virus under control temporarily but has also compelled 122 million people to lose their jobs. India's unemployment rate is now at a record high of 27.1%, according to the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE). Experts are worried since India entered the lockdown with an already high unemployment rate. Among those 122 million people, 75%(91.3 million) were small traders and labourers whereas 14.59%(17.8 million) belonged to paid and salaried employees and lastly 14.9%(18.2 million) who lost their way of earning were self-employed.
This not only dismantled the unemployed ones but also the system of employment and business operations. Various companies which can progress on the working principle of WFH(work from home) can carry on their business activities but those which can't have to shut. Problems such as salaries took much of a concern for both the employees and employers. Although various state governments advised all privatised organisation to not decline the wages, strict steps were taken on the basis of the workforce leading to layoffs of various IT companies and organisation.
Amongst such hardships, one good initiative was taken by the Delhi government. The acting government in Delhi started an online portal of jobs, which acts as a portal between employers and employees. One individual can enter this portal being either of them. This portal was indeed successful since 1.89 lakh job seekers logged in whereas 1 lakh job openings were posted by 4294 employers. Besides, the agricultural and farmers welfare minister has promised that the Agricultural Ministry would fund various start-ups under the innovation and agripreneurship in the phase 2020-21.
