The era of Online Education/e-learning has set in amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. People all over the world are trying their best to adjust to this 'new normal'

With many schools shut all over the world, millions of children have adapted to new modes of learning. The nationwide closures are impacting over 60% of the world’s student population. Due to this, a lot of students are making a transition to online learning, distance education etc. Online learning is turning out to be the new reality.

What is Online Education?

Online Education is a flexible form of education that relies on the Internet for student/teacher interaction. We are shifting to a more collaborative approach in which students and instructor co-create and actively participate the learning process.

Is learning online effective?

Some test scores have shown that in many cases, online students perform better than students in the classroom do. One of the main reasons for this is that online students don't have to spend time commuting to and from the classroom. This spares a lot of time for the students which they can utilize to work on assignments, preparing for quizzes and work on other productive work.

Online education also is less stressful as its a more flexible form of learning. This is another factor that makes online education effective.

Disadvantages of Online Education:

  1. Online education may lead to procrastination                                                           It's easy to put off reading and assignments in the online environment as there is no one to    remind us to stay on top of our coursework.
  2. Online education may cause isolation                                                                 Studying alone with only the computer as your companion can get a little lonely. The   sense of community is missing.
  3. Not suitable for practical learning                                                                       Complex topics, physical techniques, and practices that require a physical, operative   environment are best conducted in person than online.

Advantages of Online Education

  1. Increases flexibility                                                                                                Online learning allows students to learn on a personal schedule that suits them best. It also takes much less time than face-to-face learning.
  2. Easy to update the content                                                                                        In today’s world, information and knowledge change fast! Updating online courses not only allows you to keep up with the changes. The best part is that any change you make to your online content becomes immediately available to your whole learning audience.
  3. Online education brings learning to your doorstep                                                 Children may take an interest in the online environment. Parents may involve themselves in the online learning of their children

Online Education has brought a pleasant change in students' lives. In conclusion, online manner of education has both pros and cons but its manifold advantages, especially in the time of a global pandemic have indeed made it the new normal.
