Impact of wealth and money on the quality of education

My views on how lack of money prevents a quality education to those who can't afford one.

Many factors affect a kid's education. One of them is Socioeconomic status. Children who attend school in poor communities are no way close to the education quality received by those in the wealthier state.

When a student is in a poor community, his education is not only affected by a lack of resources, but also from lousy teaching methods and philosophies. Destitute school's students do not receive as equal to an education as their more affluent and suburban counterparts do.

And all this is because of lack of money.

Another reason why kids from wealthy schools are LIKELY to succeed is that prosperous and well-to-do schools have a better base to build on.

Keeping up with the moving times, using computers and Encyclopedias, a safe learning environment all add to the growth and nurture of a student. And all these are absent in a school made for the poor.

Poor schools must take what they get.

So is the case that when you think of inner-city schools, you think trouble. You might feel they are uneducated and illiterate and probably violent and mannerless.

Unfortunately, some kids love to learn but cannot avail opportunities and hence are far behind their wealthier counterparts.

You might find more meticulous students from an impoverished society than from a wealthy one. The poor ones are the ones who have a zeal to prove something.

Many people might argue that legends of this nation like Dr APJ Abul kalam and others were from THE MOST humble background and yet achieved great success. Well, that is true, but how many APJ ABUL KALAM do we see? One. That's because he was a unique and a rare person, who did what he wanted with the most meagre of resources.

The kids in Dharavi do not even get to see a school.

All they have is an excuse for schools with small shacks and no teachers.

The government did start many initiatives like Each one Teach one, Beti Bachao Beti padhao, but failed to implement any of these. Hardly any funds come to help provide for these children.

It is about time we change our thinking and mentality. There is unparalleled talent in the soil, shacks and gutters out there waiting to be analysed, examined, explored and tested. We need to give a chance to them, to change their future and in turn changing ours.
