India's All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) announced, in 2013, that there are higher than 4,600 vocational institutions that award degrees, diplomas, and post-diploma in design, engineering, house management, infrastructure, pharmacy, technology, town services, and others. There were 18.4 lakh students registered in these schools. The entire yearly absorption potential for technical diplomas and degrees exceeded 36 lakh in 2012.


According to the University Grants Commission (UGC) total registration in Science, Medicine, Agriculture, and Engineering crossed 65 lakh in 2010. The representation of women choosing to engineer has higher than increased since 2001.


Subsequent passing the Higher Secondary Examination, students may record in normal degree programs such as bachelor's degrees (graduation) in arts, commerce or science, or professional degree plans such as engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and law graduates. The central executive body at the tertiary level is the University Grants Commission (India) (UGC), which enforces its standards, advises the government, and supports coordinate between the center and the state up to Post graduation and Doctorate (Ph.D.)

The vocational education is simple and involves each form of education that aims to the acquirement of skills related to a specific declaration, trade, or work or that provides the required training and the proper facilities as well as technical knowledge so that students are able to operate.
