In a series of tweets, PM Narendra Modi honored the former union minister who was also a retired army officer. The Prime Minister honoured him for serving the nation diligently, first as a soldier and later during his long association with politics.

"Jaswant Singh Ji will be remembered for his unique perspective on matters of politics and society. He also contributed to the strengthening of the BJP," the PM added in another tweet.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who was the first to confirm the news of his passing away, wrote, "Deeply pained by the passing away of veteran BJP leader former Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh ji. He served the nation in several capacities including the charge of Raksha Mantri".

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal honoured Singh for working for the country all his life.
