Cool Things to do in The Netherlands

Comments · 693 Views

Most people visit the Netherlands for recreational drugs and **** shows, which is fine, to each their own. However, this can rob you of all the other kinds of fun and adventures you can have. let's have a look!

1. Museums

Don't even know where to begin. When you find yourself in Amsterdam, you must visit the museums, specifically the Rijksmuseum which is full of the finest artwork in the Netherlands. This museum also hosts exhibitions that feature the original Girl with the Pearl Earring by Vermeer which originally stays in Mauritshuis, The Hague. Then, walk 5 minutes and reach the Van Gogh Museum, which if you don't know has the original self-portrait and the original Sunflower painting by him.

Its a must-visit for of art enthusiasts, museum geeks and should be a must-visit for tourists as well.

2. Anne Frank House

So Amsterdam has preserved the original house of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl who wrote the Diary of a Young Girl. This is the kind of historical place that everyone who visits Amsterdam should experience. You enter the house then visit each room, one by one with an audio device, which tells you how the events took place when the Franks were still living there.

It is surreal and towards the end of the self-guided tour, you will get overwhelmed. It is an experience one should not miss out on.

3. The Cat Boat

If you are a weirdo who does not like cats, leave!

This cat boat is run by volunteers and they give shelter to stray cats of Amsterdam. You will feel so happy surrounded by cute and docile cats in the shelter and some cats even allow you to pet them. How cool is that? They don't ask you for a ticket or money to visit the cats but they do accept donations. So be kind and donate for the furries.

Also, they are only available 2 afternoons a week, so write it in your itinerary and plan accordingly.

4. Heineken Experience

A lot of beer enthusiasts visit this amazing place, but I encourage everyone to visit this factory.

Heineken is quintessentially dutch so its amazing to see how its made. The whole process is very interactive for the people. Few cool things you can get is, a bottle of Heineken with your name on it as a souvenir and The best part, FREE BEER! So, do not forget to do this while in Ams.

5. Venture out of Amsterdam

Every small city is very well connected to the central station in Amsterdam. So take this wonderful opportunity and go out of the capital and visit little cities and villages. Most people go to Zaanse Schans to see the historic windmills. I will urge you to visit Utrecht, there is this beautiful and historic Castle called Castle The Haar. It will be a One of a kind experience.

Fun Fact- The castle was owned by a french family who during their time invited the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck to party with them.

6. FOOD!!

DUTCH PANCAKES. DUTCH FRIES WITH CURRY KETCHUP. STROOPWAFEL.

Trust me and eat everything I have mentioned above when you visit Amsterdam. Thank me later!
